Questions

A question is something a buyer asks an AI assistant about your category: "Which month-end close tools work with NetSuite?" Viewfield asks each one of the engines your plan covers, every week, and keeps every answer. The questions are what everything else on the board stands on. The Questions page and the settings call them prompts.

The category

Every question is written around the category: a plural phrase for the kind of product buyers look for when they find you, in a buyer's words, the plainest common name, the words a buyer would type into a search box. "Payroll software for small businesses", not "people operations automation platforms"; "artisan bakeries", not software, when that is what you and the companies you are compared with are. The welcome proposes it from your site, with 10 questions written around it.

To change it later, open Settings on the Visibility board, edit Category and press Rewrite prompts: the seeded questions nobody edited are archived (their history stays), the ones you wrote or edited are kept, and new ones are written around the new category.

A question counts once however many engines check it. Paused questions keep their history and still count toward the limit, and one resumes only while there is room under it; archived ones free a slot. On a plan with room for more, setup adds more discovery questions inside the limit. A question that names a company, yours or another's, is a comparison question with its own results and never counts toward the headline.

The Questions page

Add or edit on the board's Questions tile opens the Questions page (/visibility/prompts): every tracked question by category, with how often you are named (Visibility), your average position (Avg position, 1 = named first), how often your pages are cited (Cited) and the page of yours that carries it (Your page), over the range you choose. Active, Paused and Archived filter it, and the export downloads it as CSV.

Managers add, edit, pause, resume and archive questions here: Add prompt opens a form with the question and its category (and, when editing, its type), and a question's More menu has Edit, Pause or Resume, and Archive. Ask Viewfield does the same when you ask ("add a question about NetSuite integrations", "pause the questions about pricing"), at once, a whole set in one go, and so does manage_aeo_tracking over MCP. When your category or product focus changes, ask it to refresh the questions: it adds the competitors the new questions name, archives the ones that no longer fit, adds the new ones in your new words and tells you what changed, and the new questions are asked within minutes. Archiving is how a question is removed: it stops being asked, frees a slot and keeps its history. A reworded question starts a new series, so a grammar fix never reads as a swing in your numbers.

Three types of question, decided by what they name: Discovery (no company named: what a buyer asks before they know any names), Alternatives to a named company, and Comparison (you against a named company).

A question's tray, and its full page

On the board, a question opens its tray: how many answers named you, per engine, over the last 30 days with the latest answer's opening words; who the answers name ("not on your list" where that applies); your pages on it (cited now, cited before, or the page that should answer it) and the pages cited instead; and two presses, Write it and Fix with the page's path (when no page of yours answers it, the tray says so, and Write it is the step).

Every detail opens the question's full page: its answers, newest first (open any one to read it in full, with every citation linked); your pages on it; what the engines searched for when they answered it (no engine searches a question as written: each turns it into a few short searches and cites from what they return, so the search is what a page has to win); the Next step; Other options, including planning posts for it; Where you stand over time; and an Ask Viewfield press with the question attached.

Write it, and content plans

Write it opens Create with the question attached: the writer will read what the answers say about it today, who they name, the pages they cite, and your own page on it if you have one. Add a note if you like, then press Research first or Write it there; nothing is written until you do. Pressing it again for the same question and kind opens the draft it already wrote.

Plan posts for this prompt (under Other options, Plan) proposes up to three pieces written to get the question answered with your name in it, each with its form (a blog post, a LinkedIn post, an X thread, a web page), a working title, the argument it makes and why. The plan reads the pages the answers cite, what they say about the company they name most, your brand basics, your claim rules, your voice, the pages your site already has (a piece reworks a page you have rather than proposing a second one) and your recent pieces. A piece that states a number or a name nothing you hold supports is left out. A blog or page piece becomes the question's post step; the others are listed as Also worth writing, each with Write. Any member can plan; a plan costs one model call on your allowance.

Who else gets named

The companies AI answers may name instead of you, as a plain list on the board's Who else gets named tile: a company and, optionally, its website. Viewfield researches and watches nothing about them; the list exists so the board can say who gets named instead of you. A company an answer names that is not on the list is still reported with that answer, and the tile lists them under "Named in answers, not on your list". On a question's full page you can add a company the answers named, or mark it Not a competitor so it is never suggested again. There is no cap. Managers edit the list in the app, by asking Ask Viewfield ("add Jasper and Profound as competitors", done at once), or over MCP with add_competitor, update_engine_item and manage_aeo_tracking.
