AI visibility

Buyers ask AI assistants the questions they used to type into a search box. Visibility (/visibility) is where Viewfield shows whether those answers name you, who they name instead, which pages they cite, and what to do about it: a page of yours to update, or a post to write. It is the second of the studio's two stories, and it is what makes the first one worth doing.

What it measures

Every week, each of your tracked buyer questions is asked of the engines your plan covers, through each engine's official API with a pinned model. With the Daily tracking add-on, your first 25 questions are checked on ChatGPT every day as well (on Starter, every question). Nothing is scraped and no consumer app is automated. Starter tracks ChatGPT. Pro tracks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. The All engines add-on adds Claude, Gemini and Perplexity to Starter. See The engines for how each one is asked.

A manager can also press Check now to ask today's questions right away, as often as the plan checks: once a week on a weekly plan (counted from the last Check now, whatever the regular schedule does) and once a day with the Daily tracking add-on. It asks the questions today has not asked yet, from this month's AI visibility budget, and leaves the regular schedule where it was. It waits while a check is running, and says why when it cannot run: on a weekly plan, the date you can check again (with the Daily tracking add-on offered beside it), or every question already asked today, the budget used up, or tracking paused.

From the stored answers Viewfield counts:

  • Named: the share of answers to your discovery questions that name you, over the seven days ending on the last completed run.
  • Who else gets named: the companies the answers name instead of you.
  • Cited: which pages the answers cite, and how many of them are yours.
  • For each question: which engines named you in their latest answer, and the step that would change it.

Every number carries its counts and the date of the run it comes from. A run still collecting, or an engine whose checks failed, is shown as partial, never as a zero. A question that names a company, yours or another's, is a comparison question with its own results and never counts toward the headline, so a question that names you cannot inflate your visibility.

The board

The board is a list, top to bottom, under "What AI says about you." and a line that says how many questions were asked of which engines, and when they were read. Under it, a status line says when checks are paused (for example, until this month's AI visibility budget resets) and, for a manager, carries Check now with the date of the next regular check; while a check runs it counts the answers as they come in, and the board fills as they land. Its other control is Settings (see The engines).

  • Questions: how many you track of how many your plan allows, with Add or edit, which opens the Questions page, and the date of the last read; then your tracked questions as rows, each with how many answers named you in the last seven days and how many cited your pages and other people's, a mark per engine (a labeled shape with its initial: filled when that engine's latest answer named you, an outline when it did not, dashed when there is no answer yet), the trend and the question's next step. A row with answers you have not seen yet is wrapped until you point at it. J and K move down and up the rows, and Enter opens one. On a wide screen the rows scroll inside the tile; a phone shows the first eight and says where the rest are.
  • Named in AI answers: the share of answers that name you in the last seven days, per engine, with its change since last week. Who gets cited opens Citations.
  • Pages cited: your five most cited pages, each with how many answers cite it and its share of all citations. Every page opens Website AEO.
  • Who else gets named: the companies AI answers may name instead of you, as chips you add (a company and, optionally, its website) and remove; managers edit it. Nothing is researched about them. Below the list, the companies the answers named that are not on it yet.
  • Suggestions: up to six next steps that need you (below).

A question opens its tray over the board (/visibility/q/<id>): who it named on each engine over the last 30 days with the latest answer's opening words, who the answers name, your pages on it (cited now, cited before, or the one that should answer it) and the pages cited instead, and two presses: Write it and Fix with the page's path. Every detail opens the question's full page.

Before the first run completes, the board says the first answers are on their way and shows no numbers.

Next steps

Every tracked question gets one next step, something a person can push live, ranked by the gap it closes: a page of yours that lost its citations, another company named instead, other pages cited instead, no page at all, nobody named. On a question's row the step reads Write it, Fix and the page's path, Finish it, Live, Measured or Named already; on the Suggestions tile it is a row with its own press.

StepWhenThe press
Update a pageYou already have a page on the question (cited now, cited before and lost, published for it, or in your sitemap)Prepare changes proposes a change to that page; then a manager saves it to your CMS as a draft and publishes it. Never a second page beside it. See Page changes
Write itNo page of yours answers the questionWrite the post (or Write it on the question) opens Create with the question attached; you press Research first or Write it there, then send the draft to your website
Finish itA post saved in the CMS and not yet public, or a change proposed for the pageReview and publish: finish it before starting a twin
Connect your websiteNothing can reach your site yetSettings › Connections
Choose where posts goThe site is connected but no destination takes postsAdd a destination

Each step carries its state, read from what actually happened (Suggested, Drafted, Ready to review, Draft in CMS, Publishing, Needs attention, Live, Measured), and its evidence: the engines whose answers did not name you, the pages cited instead (at most three), the companies named instead, your own pages' citations now and before. A step for two questions is one suggestion that names both. When nothing needs you, the tile says so.

Changes

A measured, repeated change in the answers becomes a change with its counts, windows and example answers: another company named far more often on your questions, your own pages cited less, or a gap where other companies are recommended and you are not named. A change opens over the board, from the weekly email, from Ask Viewfield or over MCP. It names its question and, for a drop, the page of yours its answers cited, with Write it, Ask Viewfield about this, and the page to rework.

The places under the board

Three places sit under the board, each with the way back to it, a date range, an export to CSV and Settings:

  • Questions (/visibility/prompts): every tracked question with its numbers, where you add, edit, pause and archive them.
  • Citations (/visibility/citations): which sites and pages the answers cite, and where yours stand among them.
  • Website AEO (/visibility/pages): every page of your website as AI answers use it.

The weekly email

Every Monday morning, in the owner's time zone, the workspace owner gets a note about the week's answers: how often you were named against the seven days before, how often your pages were cited, what changed this week, the pieces your site was first seen serving, a piece published in the CMS and still not seen after two days, and what AI answers did after a page went live, counts first and always as an association. No model writes it. It rides the Product news mailing list; leave that list and it stops.

Roles

Everyone in the workspace reads the board and downloads the CSVs. Managers and owners edit the questions, the competitor list and the settings. Every run is paid for by Viewfield inside the plan, with its own cap; when a month would cost more than that, the runs are spread out or paused until the next period, and the Questions and Citations pages say so.
