Discover
Discover (/visibility/discover) shows what AI engines connect to a topic. Type a few words buyers would use, or paste the address of a page (yours or anyone's), and Viewfield reads it backward from the answers it already collected for your tracked questions: the searches the engines ran while answering, the companies they named and the pages they cited. It counts answers, never people. There is no panel behind it, and no number on it is a search volume.
Start from the Discover tile on the Visibility board: one field, "Search a topic or paste a page", with chips to start from (how AI says your category, searches first run this week, and the topics you searched lately), how many discovery checks are left this month, and how many questions they confirmed that nobody tracks yet.
What the board reads
Every number says what it is out of. "In 46 of 310 answers" under the topic means 46 of the 310 answers read in the last 28 days carry it, and how many of them were discovery checks. An answer carries a topic when one of its searches, its question or its own words hold every word of the topic. A thin read is marked as an early read; a topic too broad, or written as a sentence, offers the engines' own narrower searches to try instead.
- Words AI connects, in three views. Added by AI: the words the engines add to the topic in their own searches, each with how many questions added it, out of the questions behind it, and which engines agree: a word several engines add counts for more than one that a single engine does. Searches: the searches that carry the topic, the longer phrases built on it, each a link that searches it in turn. Sections: the headings and bold lead-ins the answers write about it. Under them, Where your checks led: the searches your discovery checks ran that no tracked answer had.
- Answers about it that name you: how many of the topic's answers name you, the company named most, and the topic's share of answers week by week.
- Questions: your tracked questions about the topic, each with how often its answers named you (a question whose own words carry the topic comes first, then one whose answers searched for it, then one whose answers only mention it), the questions you checked, and suggested ones.
- Who gets named: the companies the topic's answers name, with their counts, marked when they are not on your list.
- Pages cited: the pages the answers cite, yours marked.
- What the winning pages ask: the questions the pages cited instead of yours were built to answer, from their titles and headings. Viewfield reads a cited page's headings once, as ViewfieldBot and only where robots.txt allows it, within a few minutes of the first topic that wants it.
- Missing from your site: phrases the engines search for that none of your page titles or headings carry, each with your closest page.
- Act on it: the steps (below).
Paste a page instead and the board reads that page: Searches that found it, how many of the answers that carried it cited it, Your questions it answers (the tracked questions whose answers carried it) and, for a page that is not yours, Your closest page.
Reading Discover is free: it reads stored answers and starts no paid work.
Suggested questions and discovery checks
Suggest questions writes up to five buyer questions from clusters of the engines' searches about the topic, once a topic a day. A suggestion never names your company and is never a question you already track. Any member can ask for them.
A discovery check asks one buyer question once on ChatGPT and Gemini, outside your tracked questions, so nothing tracked changes. Tick up to three questions (suggested ones, or your own in "Or write a buyer question to check") and press Check; the answers land on the same board in about a minute. A question reads Confirmed when the engines' own searches come back about what it was written from (they share at least half of its searches' words), Not confirmed when they do not, and Not answered when the check failed, which is not counted.
Each check comes from the month's discovery checks: 10 on Starter, 20 on Pro and 20 for each agency client, paid from the workspace's AI visibility budget, never the AI allowance. A press is refused with its reason when no checks are left this month (with the day they start again), when the budget is used up, or when the same question was already checked today. Managers and owners run checks; everyone reads Discover.
Track (managers and owners) adds a question to your tracked questions under a "Discover" category, asked on your plan's engines within minutes.
Act on it
The steps for a topic, at most six, page updates first:
| Step | When | The press |
|---|---|---|
| Update a page | The engines search for a phrase your site does not carry, and one of your pages comes closest | Propose change proposes a change to that page, focused on the phrase; a manager saves it to your CMS as a draft and publishes it. See Page changes |
| Write a post | No page of yours comes close | Write it opens Create with the topic attached |
| Track a question | A discovery check confirmed a question nobody tracks | Track (managers) |
| Add a competitor | The answers keep naming a company that is not on your list | Add (managers) puts it on Who else gets named |
Under the steps, Done from this topic lists the page changes and drafts already made from it, each with how often the answers cite you since, read as an association, never claimed as a cause.
The steps come with Pro and each agency client. On Starter the tile says how many steps a topic has and of what kinds, with Move to Pro.
Plans
Discover comes with a paid plan: searching and discovery checks on Starter, Pro and agency clients, and its steps on Pro and agency clients (Plans and pricing). It is not part of the free trial: on a trial the tile says what Discover does and offers Start Starter now (or the plan being tried), which starts the plan today. Checkout charges at once instead of at the trial's end, and a trial that already has a card on file ends now. The workspace owner presses it, and Discover opens as soon as the first payment goes through. An agency's client workspace is billed through its agency.
Over MCP and in Ask Viewfield
get_aeo_discover reads a topic (topic) or a page (url) over MCP: the same read as the board. No MCP tool runs a discovery check. In Ask Viewfield, a manager can ask for checks: the chat shows a card first (check_discover_questions), and the answers land on the topic's Discover board.
